Coating & Surface Treatment

Surface Protection for Cast and Machined Components

Surface treatment is often the last manufacturing step, but it has a direct effect on how a component performs after it leaves the factory. A good coating needs more than the right paint. Surface preparation, coating thickness, curing conditions, and handling all matter.

At Helios, coating and surface treatment are arranged according to the material, part structure, working environment, and finish requirements of each project. The process can be coordinated with casting and machining so that finished components are cleaned, protected, and prepared for their intended use.

For components that require several manufacturing operations, surface treatment is coordinated with the rest of the production process.

Casting → Cleaning → Machining → Surface Preparation → Coating → Curing → Inspection → Packaging

The exact sequence can vary depending on the material, component design, machining requirements, and coating specification.

This approach helps keep the finished part consistent from the first manufacturing operation through final surface treatment.

Cleaner Coating Operations

Helios has upgraded its coating workshop with online desorption catalytic combustion equipment as part of its cleaner production efforts. The system is used to reduce the impact of coating operations and help control emissions from the process.

Environmental considerations are becoming increasingly important in industrial finishing. For this reason, coating equipment, process control, and workshop management all form part of the way Helios approaches surface treatment.
